Perahu Nusantara exists to unlock the human potential of coastal communities so that families thrive in a healthy environment.

Many families in coastal areas of Indonesia are still trapped in poverty.

Research shows why; a lack of people development.

Poverty alleviation programs only create lasting transformation when they bring about changed attitudes and behaviour.

We at Perahu Nusantara, an Indonesian-led non-profit, envision coastal communities where children succeed at school, young people learn new skills and adults confidently start sustainable businesses.

Together, communities work hard, innovate and protect the environment for a prosperous future.

To realize this dream, we mentor Indonesian trainers and place them in coastal communities to build capacity in three priority areas:

  • Education – Improving literacy among children and teaching practical skills to young people.
  • Entrepreneurship – Mentoring start-up businesses.
  • Environment – Practising careful management of natural resources.
