Helping children and young people fulfil their potential
Education is a low priority in many coastal communities.
Many children quickly fall behind and do not complete primary school. Often the lure of instant returns from fishing is more attractive than the long term pay-off of getting an education.
Working together with the I Love Reading Program, we support pre-schools and schools in teaching children to read.
By training teachers, providing resources and encouraging parents, we help children fulfil their potential.
We also provide training for young people
Because many young people leave school without qualifications, we teach them practical skills such as fixing boat machines that reduce their dependence on income from fishing, securing them a brighter future.
